Both are great, but I just love the deeper colours and the muted freckles in the second picture! Makes the Asian pear-ness really stand out.

In case anyone is wondering, the first one was lit by a large fluorescent light on the ceiling, and the second one was lit by my flash bounced off of a sliding glass door.

Sounds like that's another vote for #2. There is more graphic interest in the second apple, as well as character. The shadow has an interesting variation, and the tones (on the apple are more interesting as well). The light wrap is easily much more curious (i.e. better) on the second one.

I don't know all the photography language, but I like the second one. The colours are warmer...

i like the brightness of the first photo but the shadow of the second photo.
the second photo is just a little too dark for my taste but i like the composition
did you eat it when you were done?

We didn't eat it last night but we just ate it a few minutes ago! :) it was quite good. I really like asian pears because they're crunchy like apples but juicy almost like watermelon.

Second :-)

If I were to anthropomorphize the pictures, I'd say the first one looks friendly and simple, maybe a bit naive. The second looks startled, alarmed, perhaps even a little sneaky. But the second also looks more like a lemon; a definite plus. If only it didn't have quite so much of a glare. I'll go with the first one.

Thanks for all your comments! I've picked the second one to go on my 365 project. You can find it at http://365project.org/johonn/365
